Sloppy Cuckoo

Decided a week prior that I would run this 12 hour. Headed in with focusing on time on feet and not distance, still was looking for 70+ miles would have been good training for NJ Trail 12 hour.

Reaching the course and the previous course record, I knew leading into the race I would not be close to 70 miles.

This course was difficult as a timed event due to the climbs, rocks, and down trees, but beautiful scenery, friendly volunteers that I am so greatful to see every 3-3.5 miles. The course was a 6.55 loop, starting and ending flat. In the actual trail, mostly single track started decently flat with one big climb about .5 mile in. After that a few declines and flats, next half was where we started to see long rolling hills, biggest hill was right after the aid station, tip toe running is all I could do up it. Then came a few winding turns, love that part I felt like a real trail runner lol. There was many natural obstacles out there, trees down of the trail, and after so many loops I stopped jumping and started climbing. There were a few climbs with rocks, those were the hardest. There was a creek about a .25 mile from the end of the loop.

Everything now really seems like a blur as for the race, I know I didn't really hit any low points in this race, I didn't hit the wall, and mentally was very strong. My body was ready, legs and feet took a beating on the course and I may have slowed down the last 2 loops which caused me not to go on to the 11th loop but very happy with how I preformed on this course. Also, I my stomach corporated with me, as for nutrition I used Trifuel, water, some Gatorade, salt tabs, a couple cookies, a few potatoes with salt, and I consumed probably 3 PBJs. I didn't eat much on course but stayed hydrated, 80*+ !

I won first female and overall and set a new course record 65.5 in 11:03. I say I am pretty happy with how I made out. I now have the Blues Cruise 50k this weekend and Steamtown Marathon to follow. Busy girl but just trying to keep moving forward.

Brought home the Cuckoo Clock!!!

Worlds End Ultra 50k

If you don't look off to the sides, bears aren't there.  If you don't focus so much on the trail infront of you, you don't see snakes...  Maybe that noise I just heard was just some other runner falling into rubbish or maybe it's a bear? Well no bear and no snakes sights during this event, which is a win in my eyes!  World's End Ultra Marathon.   Location: Worlds End State Park, Pennsylvania  Distance: 50k Elevation gain: 6200+ft Course conditions: Wet, Mud Nutrition: 2 liters water, 4 oz coke. Looking back at all the ultra marathons I have ran (over 30 finishes) closer to over 40 If you want to count the few DNFs and a few distance switches. Besides the point, out of 30+ ultras I have ran, Worlds End is the toughest, most challenging course I have come across for the 50k distance, and to make the race even more brutal, we ran it in a heat wave. Rewind to 2 weeks prior. I got an email that my name was selected off the waitlist to be a participant. I ...

Skidaway Island Marathon

Since I ended up getting sick at Caumsett 50k earlier this month I felt like I should jump into another race since I was/am "race ready" I put in the work so I might as well do a race to see where I stand. Skidaway Island Marathon fell on March 26th, which was a good weekend for me to have a race.  I didn't really have a goal in mind for this marathon, other than to have a good race. I thought I may be able to get 3:10/3:15 after hearing the horror stories of how humid/hot and the amount of winding turns being made on course. Weather was calling for thunderstorms, lightening and heavy rain. Yay!! Luckily I wasn't raining at the start. I started out slower than I typically would for a road marathon- which was a good move on my part, I didn't look at my watch from mile 1 to until I reached the half marathon point. I just ran comfortably chatting along with a few other runners.  The course was marked very well- and was it a very zig-zagy course for sure! I'm not ...
