BUS Trail Mix up 50k

Dang. I've been slacking some on this blog. Okay time to update.

I did not run NJ One Day 12 hour. Which really blows since that was the race I was initially training for. A week before the race my achilles was really tight, I decided the day before the race to sit out. I took most of November off since I came off 2 ultras and a marathon PR within 2 months.

I honestly almost forgot I was signed up for BUS Trail mix up 50k on December 21. So I only got about 3 good weeks of training in, one good long run and a few tempos. I headed into this race not prepared and really only goal was finishing and hoping it would be under 4.5 hours. Also, a couple ladies Maggie Guterl and Sky Canaves would be my biggest competition out there, both ladies qualified for USA 24 hour team (Congrats girls!!!!!!) also both speedsters. Both ladies did a 60k ultra (sidewalk) run the day before (crazies)... !!

Race... I started fast, as usual (rolling my eyes because you think I would learn my lesson)... I wasn't sure what to expect from this course, it was 5 loops then 6 loops I forget the exact measurements something like 3 3/4 mile and 1 3/4 mile. Half pavement, half trail. For the most part of the pavement it was rolling, a few longer inclines which I really started to hate in the later loops. The trail portion was pretty beautiful, some stepping moments which killed my momentum.

The first loop I ran with Bradford Lombardi, fellow BRLsports Athlete and also was exciting to run along side such a great ultra runner. I told him while we were running my main goal was to beat him.

After the first lap I was in the lead overall, I tried not to look at my watch because I knew I was running to fast for this course. I did feel good though so I told my self run it like a marathon then hold on. I've used this concept 2 other times, probably not smart, but I like making little goals for myself.

I ran mostly alone the entire race, I did see most of the other runners as laps overlapped. Every runner was in great spirits out there, and gave me motivation with their well wishes.

I was first to cross the 30k check point, 2:17. At this point I started to get hungry, ate half a PBJ and downed some water. I was fueling off TRIFUEL, lemon lime flavor. Which really kept me on my toes and moving.

Mile 25.5 is about where the first male caught me, Byron Lane. He ran along side me a minute and I'm pretty sure he saw I wasn't about to keep up, he flew by me. Dang.

The last 6 miles the rolling hills really started to get to me, I think it was more of the 1 3/4 mile loop 6 times of rolling hills that was killing my motivation. 2nd Male runner caught me with less than a mile to go.

Finished 3rd overall and 1st lady with a time of 3:57:56. Not a PR but shocked I finished under 4 hours. Happy with my time. Gives me motivation for the next couple months of training for Caumsett 50k.

Worlds End Ultra 50k

If you don't look off to the sides, bears aren't there.  If you don't focus so much on the trail infront of you, you don't see snakes...  Maybe that noise I just heard was just some other runner falling into rubbish or maybe it's a bear? Well no bear and no snakes sights during this event, which is a win in my eyes!  World's End Ultra Marathon.   Location: Worlds End State Park, Pennsylvania  Distance: 50k Elevation gain: 6200+ft Course conditions: Wet, Mud Nutrition: 2 liters water, 4 oz coke. Looking back at all the ultra marathons I have ran (over 30 finishes) closer to over 40 If you want to count the few DNFs and a few distance switches. Besides the point, out of 30+ ultras I have ran, Worlds End is the toughest, most challenging course I have come across for the 50k distance, and to make the race even more brutal, we ran it in a heat wave. Rewind to 2 weeks prior. I got an email that my name was selected off the waitlist to be a participant. I

MIA

I ALMOST completely erased my entire "One Run Closer" blog that I started back in early 2014, reading through all my past training, race goals and race recaps left me realizing how much I changed since I found this sport.  I decided to leave my blog be, after all in some moment of time what I wrote meant something significant to me. Even though so much has changed, I changed, it may be all those instances, all those injuries, all those jabs in life that made me who I am today. Moving forward, and looking to find something that will give me significance and a reason to feel the fire again and also keep me accountable and most importantly find mindfulness and joy in life and running again. I feel that I should go into depth of where I am coming from to explain why I am here. 8 years ago or more I was once wrote about being one of the best female ultra runners on the East Coast. Still to this day I never thought that as being true. Yes, I won ultras, claimed and brok
