Skidaway Island Marathon

Since I ended up getting sick at Caumsett 50k earlier this month I felt like I should jump into another race since I was/am "race ready" I put in the work so I might as well do a race to see where I stand.

Skidaway Island Marathon fell on March 26th, which was a good weekend for me to have a race.

I didn't really have a goal in mind for this marathon, other than to have a good race. I thought I may be able to get 3:10/3:15 after hearing the horror stories of how humid/hot and the amount of winding turns being made on course.

Weather was calling for thunderstorms, lightening and heavy rain. Yay!! Luckily I wasn't raining at the start.

I started out slower than I typically would for a road marathon- which was a good move on my part, I didn't look at my watch from mile 1 to until I reached the half marathon point. I just ran comfortably chatting along with a few other runners.

The course was marked very well- and was it a very zig-zagy course for sure! I'm not sure if that slowed me down- I don't think so, the only thing that may have slowed me down was the down pour rain that hit us for a few miles- couldn't see ANYTHING!!!!

At the half point I caught up to the 3rd Male, held this until mile 22, I was surprised I was still feeling well, and started to wonder maybe I wasn't pushing as hard as I could/should be... But at that point I just kept moving at my pace..mile 23 I started to get thirsty, I was drinking water along the course but for how humid it was I wasn't getting in enough as I should have been. I hit the wall at mile 23 is kinda hard to say bc I only slowed down 10-20 seconds per mile. I still had a good turn over and my form was still in check!

I passed the 2nd male, but the male behind me was closing in on me strong and I honestly tried to stay with him but  I didn't care..... The last 3 miles were never ending on that road!

Finishing 1st Lady, 3rd Overall. Broke the Female Course Record with a 3:05:32. No PR but a strong race, happy with my time, makes me confidant that I am capable of much much more knowing how great I felt out there.

Congratulations to everyone who ran and got rained on!!

Fueled off TRIFUEL- lemon lime. Pre race 10oz.

Ran in Altra Impulse.

Worlds End Ultra 50k

If you don't look off to the sides, bears aren't there.  If you don't focus so much on the trail infront of you, you don't see snakes...  Maybe that noise I just heard was just some other runner falling into rubbish or maybe it's a bear? Well no bear and no snakes sights during this event, which is a win in my eyes!  World's End Ultra Marathon.   Location: Worlds End State Park, Pennsylvania  Distance: 50k Elevation gain: 6200+ft Course conditions: Wet, Mud Nutrition: 2 liters water, 4 oz coke. Looking back at all the ultra marathons I have ran (over 30 finishes) closer to over 40 If you want to count the few DNFs and a few distance switches. Besides the point, out of 30+ ultras I have ran, Worlds End is the toughest, most challenging course I have come across for the 50k distance, and to make the race even more brutal, we ran it in a heat wave. Rewind to 2 weeks prior. I got an email that my name was selected off the waitlist to be a participant. I

MIA

I ALMOST completely erased my entire "One Run Closer" blog that I started back in early 2014, reading through all my past training, race goals and race recaps left me realizing how much I changed since I found this sport.  I decided to leave my blog be, after all in some moment of time what I wrote meant something significant to me. Even though so much has changed, I changed, it may be all those instances, all those injuries, all those jabs in life that made me who I am today. Moving forward, and looking to find something that will give me significance and a reason to feel the fire again and also keep me accountable and most importantly find mindfulness and joy in life and running again. I feel that I should go into depth of where I am coming from to explain why I am here. 8 years ago or more I was once wrote about being one of the best female ultra runners on the East Coast. Still to this day I never thought that as being true. Yes, I won ultras, claimed and brok
