NJ Trail Series One Day 12 Hour Training

103 days of training.

Over the next few months I will be recording my training for the NJ Trail Series One Day 12 Hour Race in Sussex County on November 8. I have set 3 different goals in mind for this race.

1. Finish (12 hours) regardless of distance, run entire 12 hours, DO NOT DNF.
2. PR with a distance of 74+ miles within 12 hours.
3. Reach 80+ miles within 12 hours.

Week 15:

Ended first week of training with:
Running: 63 miles
Biking: 64 miles
Walking: 18 miles

Run down: coming off an injury since March, my last 24 hour race, I took off 12 weeks completely, NO RUNNING! The past 3 weeks I have been running here and there miles, this past week I FELT like a runner. 63 mile running week, not too shabby, I'll take it!!! I have an appointment with Orthpedic Thursday for my knee, I believe I am good to go, but have to play it safe.... and actually get the O.K.... Until then a 🏃🏃🏃🏃ing I will go.

Week 14

Running: 71 miles
Biking: zero-
Walking: 15 miles

Run down: had a consistent week, comfortable paces and a few quicker runs. Good news is Orthopedic cleared me to run again, any distances. I was so happy I cried happy tears in his office. Signed up for Pine Creek 100k, have 4 weeks to get in a few long runs, I'll be happy with a 40 miler before the race and also a good 50k or 2.

Week 13

Running- 106 miles
Biking- 4 miles
Walking- 12 miles

Run Down- High mileage week, 106 mile week of running. 3 long runs, 22, 20, and a 26 mile. 3 weeks til Pine Creek 100k, need to keep my mind focused on what my main goal is and NOT be competitive in this race. Next week will have a 50k training run and a few days of tempo.

Week 12

Running- 75 miles
Walking- 15 miles
Biking- zero

Run Down- getting them miles in, 75 miles for the week. Focusing on my endurance for now. Progress over perfection. 50k training run 4:09. Thoughts on how I want to approach Pine Creek 100k, I would love to be inshape to run a sub 9 hour. But I did just start running again 5 weeks ago, I'm strong but not that strong, I need t use this race as a training run for NJ Trail 12 Hour.

Week 11

Running-111 miles
Walking-5 miles

Run down- 3 long runs in. Decent paces in humid conditions. Feeling strong, but need to use Pine Creek 100k as a training run for NJ trail 12 hour. I am very excited to race again, it's been almost 6 months since I pinned on a bib#.

Week 10

Running- 81 miles
Walking- 7 miles

Run down- tapered then Pine Creek 100k. Came in first overall and set a new course record. Was a humid race and got sick after the turn around point, kept my self moving. Great training for NJ Trail Series 12 hour. Next few weeks gear up for Steamtown Marathon.

Week 9

Running- 45 miles
Walking- 12 miles

Run down- used this week to recover from Pine Creek challenge. Register for blues Cruise 50 K regional championship. Need to focus on speed work over the next couple weeks.

Week 8

Running- 63 miles
Walking- 7 miles

Run down- working on some speed work. Not feeling strong enough to go sub 3 hour Steamtown Marathon, but that's not what my main goal is, and I believe I will achieve that at NJ Trail 12 hour with 80 miles. #stayfocused on what's important

Worlds End Ultra 50k

If you don't look off to the sides, bears aren't there.  If you don't focus so much on the trail infront of you, you don't see snakes...  Maybe that noise I just heard was just some other runner falling into rubbish or maybe it's a bear? Well no bear and no snakes sights during this event, which is a win in my eyes!  World's End Ultra Marathon.   Location: Worlds End State Park, Pennsylvania  Distance: 50k Elevation gain: 6200+ft Course conditions: Wet, Mud Nutrition: 2 liters water, 4 oz coke. Looking back at all the ultra marathons I have ran (over 30 finishes) closer to over 40 If you want to count the few DNFs and a few distance switches. Besides the point, out of 30+ ultras I have ran, Worlds End is the toughest, most challenging course I have come across for the 50k distance, and to make the race even more brutal, we ran it in a heat wave. Rewind to 2 weeks prior. I got an email that my name was selected off the waitlist to be a participant. I

MIA

I ALMOST completely erased my entire "One Run Closer" blog that I started back in early 2014, reading through all my past training, race goals and race recaps left me realizing how much I changed since I found this sport.  I decided to leave my blog be, after all in some moment of time what I wrote meant something significant to me. Even though so much has changed, I changed, it may be all those instances, all those injuries, all those jabs in life that made me who I am today. Moving forward, and looking to find something that will give me significance and a reason to feel the fire again and also keep me accountable and most importantly find mindfulness and joy in life and running again. I feel that I should go into depth of where I am coming from to explain why I am here. 8 years ago or more I was once wrote about being one of the best female ultra runners on the East Coast. Still to this day I never thought that as being true. Yes, I won ultras, claimed and brok
